Title: Undercurrent: a Siren novel
Author: Tricia Rayburn
Pub Date: July 2011
Publisher: EgmontUSA
352 pages

From GoodReads:
The sirens are back, but Vanessa may be the biggest threat of all. . . .

Nothing has been normal since Vanessa Sands learned that her sister was murdered by sirens—femme fatales of the watery depths—and that everything she believed about her family was a lie.

Her boyfriend Simon’s been the only person Vanessa feels she can really trust. But now there are some secrets she can’t tell even him. And when Vanessa finds herself in the sights of Parker, Hawthorne Prep’s resident charmer, she needs someone to confide in more than ever. Doubting her relationship with Simon, unsure of Parker’s intentions—and of her own—and terrified by what she’s learned about herself, Vanessa has never felt so alone.

But personal problems must be put aside, because the Winter Harbor sirens are back for revenge. Now, Vanessa must face her past and accept that she is just like her enemies—every bit as alluring, every bit as dangerous.

The eagerly anticipated second novel of the Siren trilogy, Undercurrent is a seductive paranormal romance that will leave you breathless.

After defeating the sirens that killed her sister, Vanessa's life has not been the same.
She's still with Simon, but now there is Parker. And Simon is acting very strange. Granted, Vanessa is acting strange too. She has a really big secret. This secret could destroy them. Family secrets also emerge that throw Vanessa for a tail spin.

In the midst of all of these revelation, the sirens come back to Winter Harbor. And this time they are pissed and want revenge. Their target? Vanessa and Simon. Will they be able to stop the sirens a second time?

Undercurrent was not my favorite of the two.  I was especially bummed because it had the potential to rock. I'm hoping all my wishes for the series will be met in the third. I didn't like Vanessa and Simon in this book. Granted, the re-emergence of the sirens was pretty interesting...

Book three teaser!!
Dark Water comes out July 10, 2012.
When seventeen-year-old Vanessa reunites with her biological mother, she faces the dilemma of a siren's existence, that in order to survive she must endanger the lives of those she loves most.

See what I mean about the paper back

beautiful with the other two!

From GoodReads:
Vacationing in Winter Harbor, Maine, is a tradition for Vanessa and Justine Sands, and that means spending time with the Carmichael boys. This summer, Vanessa is determined to channel some of her older sister’s boldness, get over her fear of the ocean, and maybe turn her friendship with Simon Carmichael into something much more.

But when Justine goes cliff-diving after a big family argument, and her body washes ashore the next day, Vanessa is sure that it was more than an accident. She is more certain of this, when she discovers that her sister was keeping some big secrets and Caleb Carmichael’s gone missing. Suddenly, the entire oceanfront town is abuzz when a series of grim, water-related accidents occur, with the male victims washed ashore grinning from ear to ear.

Vanessa and Simon team up to figure out if these creepy deaths have anything to do with Justine and Caleb, but what Vanessa discovers might mean the end of her summer romance, and life as she knows it.

On a summer vacation, Vanessa's sister disappears. Her lifeless body washes up on shore the next day. Vanessa doesn't believe that it was an accident. Justine was an excellent swimmer.

In an attempt to return life to normal, Vanessa and her parents return home, but Vanessa cannot let it go. She returns to Winter Harbor to look for answers, and to look for Caleb-Justine's secret boyfriend. But he has gone missing. So with Simon, Caleb's brother, they search for him. In the process, secrets unravel about Justine and Caleb. And romance blossoms.

The mystery builds when dead men begin to wash ashore. The bodies all have grins on their faces. Death was peaceful and happy for them. But what caused it? The answer to that question will not be what Vanessa and Simon are expecting. It just might be the end for both of them.

Paperback cover
I enjoyed Siren. It was my first book with sirens, and much enjoyable. Some of the story was a little predictable, but not enough to sway enjoyment. Initially I was drawn to this cover because of the foil/silvery eyes on the cover. It was magnetic. But now I see the paper back cover and I am more in love! It is just beautiful and it also goes with the next two titles in the series. I also love the darkness of it.

So, back to the sirens. They are not nice! Yay! I don't know what my deal is, but I like when mythological/fantasy creatures are written and characterized by their TRUE natures. Sirens lured men to their death with their voices.
